The default 1099 form does not print in the right boxes. How to I change the position of where the boxes print?
Answer:
Each 1099 style form you print has a 1099 form associated with it. Your default 1099 style will be used when you run one of the two 1099 Reports. The form to be used is set-up in Tools > System Utilities > System Options in the AP section. If you use more than one 1099 style, you will need to set up additional forms in FIMS for the different boxes you want to print the information in. If you want the standard 1099-MISC form to print in multiple boxes or different boxes for different vendors, you must use the 1099-MISC as the base for your customization. Before setting up different forms, check to see if the new 1099-MISC will support your needs. This form will print the 1099 amounts in the appropriate box based upon the box number chosen on the line item tab of the voucher.
Note: If you print to PDF then from there to printer, this can also cause issues with alignment. The default for PDF printing from most places is to scale document to fit printed area. In order to print from PDF so it lines up, user must choose actual size:

To Edit or Create a 1099 form:
- Go to Tools > System Utilities > Admin Utilities > Finance Utilities > A/P 1099 and Check Forms Maintenance.
- Find the form you use in the drop down. If you have previously modified the form, the label will probably start with "User Defined...". If you haven't previously modified the form, find the form, open it and click Copy.
- You can't directly edit the form, so click OK and leave the utility.
- Re-enter the utility to edit the newly created User Defined form.
VendorAmount=X4|YForm+2.30|L3
or
Box1099-5=x4.2|Yform+1.50|L3
Once you have found the line, you will need to modify it to move the Amount to a different location on the form. The values following X and Y on the live are page coordinates. X is the distance from the left side of the page, Y is the distance from the top of the page, both are in inches. Change the numbers slightly to adjust the positioning of where the box is printed. Save the form and print an example for examination. Repeat adjustments using trial and error until you have everything right where you want it.
NOTE: It is highly recommended that you copy live to test and test editing the 1099 there, or copy your 1099 in your live data and practice making the adjustments there to be sure correct before applying those to your actual form that you will use.
