DonorCentral Migration from Blackbaud Systems to NPact Systems
DonorCentral Migration from Blackbaud Systems to NPact Systems
This article outlines the workflows for user log into DonorCentral after the migration to NPact systems and common questions. Please see the Summary and Sections I-II below.
Summary
- Note: If you are using FIMS on-premises you must upgrade to FIMS 14.77 in order to have full functionality with DonorCentral after the migration takes place. You can upgrade to FIMS 14.77 before the migration so that you are ready. FIMS hosted in NPact systems was upgraded to 14.77 on 7/27/2024.
- Migration affecting user log in experience: The migration of all DonorCentral sites from Blackbaud systems to NPact systems will occur on Wednesday, July 31st between 6:30 AM ET - 10:30 AM ET. During this time, users will not be able to access DonorCentral. During this outage, if a user tries to log into DonorCentral on the Blackbaud ID log in page, they will be redirected to the NPact product page. Once the downtime window is completed, users will no longer use the Blackbaud log in page and instead will begin using the new NPact login page to access DonorCentral which is outlined below in section I.
- DonorCentral URL: The URL to your DonorCentral site will not change. Note: Please see section II, item # 1 for important notes and clarification on the DonorCentral URL.
- Welcome Emails: The Welcome emails that go out to new users will need to be updated, please see section II, item # 4.
- Sign in with Google\Apple:
>Sign in with Google\Apple methods of logging in will no longer be available.
>Users who use Google, Apple methods of logging in will use their email address to log into DonorCentral outlined in section I below. This would be the same email address that was used for signing in with Google or Apple previously with DonorCentral. The only difference is that those email addresses will not be linked with Google and Apple for authentication.
>Users do not need to disconnect from Google or Apple authentication prior to the migration, but if they wish to do so, please see section II, item #9. See section II, item #11 to see what method user accounts are connected with to log into DonorCentral.
- Please see section I for new log in workflow and section II for common questions.

II. Common Questions:
1. Will the URL for our DonorCentral site change?
A: No, the URL will not change to your DonorCentral site.
- To clarify, the correct URL for your DonorCentral site ends in donorcentral.com, for example, myfoundation.donorcentral.com.
- Be sure to use the correct URL to access DonorCentral and NOT the redirected Blackbaud ID log in URL. If you do not know what the correct URL is for your DonorCentral site, please contact support.
Example of old Blackbaud URL. Blackbaud URLs for DonorCentral should not be used.
https://app.blackbaud.com/signin/?redirectUrl=https:%2F%2Fsupport.donorcentral.com%2F
2. Will DonorCentral users be prompted to set up or required to set up MFA for use with DonorCentral?
- MFA for DonorCentral will be implemented at a later date.
3. Will recurring suggestions be carried over to DonorCentral on NPact with the same information, such as the same advisor who submitted the suggestion and the same recurring schedule?
A: Yes.
- If an advisor creates and submits a recurring recommendation in DonorCentral and that advisor has not signed into DonorCentral after the migration to NPact, those recurring suggestions previously created will still be processed as normal.
4. Will the verbiage in the Welcome emails need to be updated?
A: Yes, you will need to update the Welcome emails. On July 31st after the migration is complete, you must do either option A or option B below.
Note that we are removing BBID User versus Non-BBID User email types shown in the screenshot below:
Option A. Click the Restore Defaults button in the Welcome email configuration window to update the Welcome emails to the new default verbiage. Once you click that button and click Save, your Welcome emails will be changed to the new default text shown below the screenshot:
Your DonorCentral account has been activated! Use the link below to access the site.
{SITE_URL}
Sign in with your DonorCentral email address: {USER_EMAIL_ADDRESS}.
New to DonorCentral: You’ll be requested to reset your password.
OR
Option B. Edit the Welcome email with preferred verbiage. Steps to configure automatic emails are outlined in this document: Configure Automated Emails
5. After the migration, will new users be added to DonorCentral the same way?
A: Yes, users will first be added to FIMS and will receive a welcome email as they currently do. The user will click on the link in the welcome email and will be prompted to reset their password.
6. When will Sign in with Google and Sign in with Apple be implemented in NPact systems for DonorCentral?
A: We will not be implementing sign in with Google or Apple for DonorCentral in NPact systems.
7. What happens if a user has never logged into DonorCentral, will they be able to log into DonorCentral after the migration? Will we need to send out a new Welcome email?
A: Users who have never logged into DonorCentral can use the same workflow described in Section I to log into DonorCentral after the migration. You do not need to send a new Welcome email.
8. What happens to a user’s account who has previously logged into DonorCentral but never logs into DonorCentral after the migration and resets their password in NPact systems?
A: There is no deadline for users to log into DonorCentral after the migration to reset their password.
9. Will there be any changes in appearance in how DonorCentral looks?
A: Yes, there will be changes in appearance in how the new NPact log in screen will look compared to the old BBID log in screen, the navigation bars on the top of the Home screen in DonorCentral and the Hamburger menu in DonorCentral. We will also be updating Log in status types and log in types in Control Panel > Site Administration > Users.
- New Log in Screen; please see item I, 'Logging into DonorCentral after the migration' above.
- New navigation bar:
- Note that the hamburger button, or the three horizontal lines button is now gone.
- Note the username on the top-right and username drop-down with sign-out button.
10. Prior to the migration, if a user logs into DonorCentral using Sign in with Google\Apple, does that user have to disconnect those log-in methods?
No, the user does not have to disconnect those log-in methods prior to the migration, but if they do want to disconnect, the user can follow the steps outlined in the articles below:
Disconnect sign in with Google from BBID:
https://kb.blackbaud.com/knowledgebase/articles/Article/71538
Disconnect Sign in with Apple from BBID:
https://kb.blackbaud.com/knowledgebase/articles/Article/199826
Note that the instructions to disconnect Google or Apple from BBID will no longer be relevant for DonorCentral log ins after July 31st, but if users access any other Blackbaud products, then those instructions would still be valid for those Blackbaud products.
11. Sometimes users have difficulty logging into DonorCentral due their email address having been updated in FIMS. When this happens, there is a message displayed in Control Panel > Site Administration > Users for that user's account, 'Email Differs from BBID'. How will users who have changed their email be able to log into DonorCentral? How will users know which email they need to use to log into DonorCentral?
- The message, 'Email Differs from BBID' occurs due to the email address for the advisor or staff member having been changed in FIMS. When the next DonorCentral upload takes place, that new email gets uploaded to DonorCentral, but that new email is not updated in the BBID system which is separate.
- The email that should be used to log into DonorCentral is the one that is on the profile 1 record in FIMS for advisors or for staff the email that is on the staff code table in FIMS. The following article outlines how access is granted to DonorCentral: Register new users
- The email address that is in FIMS is the same one that is on the Email column in DonorCentral in Control Panel > Site Administration > Users as shown below. The email address displayed in the Email column in Control Panel > Site Administration > Users is the one that users should be using to log into DonorCentral.
- Users whose account status in Conrol panel shows BBID differs from email can use the same workflow described in Section I to log into DonorCentral after the migration. You do not need to send a new Welcome email.
12. How can I see which users log in with email\password versus which users log in with Google\Apple or SSO before the migration?
A: Go to Control Panel\Site Administration\Users and note the Login type column which shows the log in type for all users.
BBID: Email\Password
Google: Social media log in using Sign in with Google or Sign in with Apple
None: Means user has not logged in yet
SSO: Single Sign On
The log in type of Google actually captures all social media log ins including Apple. You can filter on just Google log ins so that you can see how many users use social media log ins by clicking the filter button, selecting Login type on the side and selecting Google then click apply filters as shown below.
You can also filter on SSO and see how many users use SSO.
