I can't save a new contact. Each time I try I get an error message. How do I fix this?
Answer:
This problem is caused by the contact number having already been used for a record and that same number is attempted to be used again for a new record. This can also occur during the contact import process if the correct contact numbers are not used in the import.
This error can occur when manually creating a contact on the profile record in FIMS and typically happens after having used the spreadsheet import tool to import contacts. The spreadsheet import tool will not auto-increment the next contact number to be used, thus when trying to create a new contact in FIMS the error will occur after having used the import to create contacts.
For example, let's say that you imported contact numbers 100-200 in the import. If you go to System Utilities > Set Automatic Numbers after running the import you will see that the next contact # still shows 100, not 201 as you would expect. 201 would be the next contact # to be used after the import of #s 100-200 but unfortunately the import tool does not communicate with the system utility tool.
You will need to look at the spreadsheet that you used for the import and see what the last contact number was and then go to Tools > System Utilities > Set Automatic Numbers and set that to be higher than the last number in the import.
Everytime you run the contact import, you will need to do the same steps.
