Article summary

Before a general ledger account can be added to funds, it must first be set up in the Master Chart of Accounts.

Answer:
Before you can add a new GL account to any Fund's individual chart of accounts, the GL account must exist in the Master Chart.  To add it to the Master Chart:
  1. Click on General Ledger File Maintenance > Master Chart of Accounts Maintenance.
  2. Click the New button and enter in the Natural Account Number, Description, and Type.
  3. If you want this new GL account to automatically be added to any new Fund that you add in a particular Class, or you plan to Mass Add the new account to multiple Funds, then add the applicable Classes.  If you only want to add it on a case-by-case basis, do not add any Classes.  Click the Save button.
Now that the account is in the master chart you can add it to the fund:
  1. Go to the Accounts super tab in the General Ledger, and search for the Fund you want to add the account for.
  2. Click on the small Account tab.
  3. Click the New button on the toolbar and enter the Fundid and Natural Account Number.
  4. The rest of the information will flow in from the Master Chart.
  5. Confirm that the year is correct.
  6. Click the Save button on the toolbar.
  7. Then click on the binoculars button on the toolbar to confirm the new account was added to the Fund.
