Article summary

FIMS Window Components

Most windows in FIMS modules share a similar format. The top section of the window contains the title bar, menu bar, and toolbar. This is similar to most Microsoft Windows-based programs.

Below this section is the Data Window, where you do all of your data entry and modification in FIMS.

The Message Bar at the bottom of the window provides information about the currently selected data field, and tips for data entry in that field.

Refer to the following section for more information on the FIMS window components.

Title Bar

Displays the name of the module and the name of the database that you are currently working with.

If your organization uses more than one database, you can either select one when you start FIMS, or select one at any time while you are using FIMS by selecting it from the Database menu.

Menu Bar

Each item on the menu bar opens a menu (sometimes with sub-menus) that allows you to select commands that you want FIMS to perform (for example, searching for a record).

Example: Menu Bar

Refer to FIMS Menus for more information.

Note: The options listed at the top of the Reports and File Maintenance menus vary depending on the open module. Refer to the module specific sections for more information on these menus.

Toolbar

The buttons on the toolbar are short cuts for frequently used commands. Most of the commands are also available from the menu bar. In addition to the standard FIMS toolbar buttons, which are always available, each module has its own set of toolbar buttons to help you perform frequent tasks.

Refer to FIMS Toolbars for more information.

Data Window

This is the section of the window where you enter data, search for records, and run processes. It allows you to add, view, update, or remove information from your organization’s database.

The Data window has five main components: Module Title Bar, Supertabs, Tabs, Data Grids and Data Fields.

Record Title Bar: This title bar displays the information about the record that is currently open.

Supertabs: Located just below the Record Title Bar, FIMS supertabs allow you to move between major sections of the module (for example, Unposted Gifts and Gift History).

Tabs: Located below the supertabs, tabs allow you to add and edit information in the data fields for a selected record.

Data Grids: Data Grids are a part of each module that allow you to search for existing records in the database. Click the Search button on the toolbar (looks like binoculars) to open the Data Grid. Refer to Data Grids for more information.

Data Fields: Located within each tab, these are the sections where you enter the actual information for each record (for example, the Donor’s name and address information)

Message Bar

The message bar provides information about the data you are viewing, the currently selected data field, and or tips for data entry in the selected field.
