Article summary

When using the eAdvisorStatements2007 MS Word macro to create PDF fund statement documents to upload to Donor Central the PDF documents have extra spaces in each cell, or there is an extra page at the end of the statement, how can I make the PDF document look more the like MS Word document?

Answer:

Do the following to resolve:

Edit the style in the Word template to use the style No Space

  • Open the Fund Statement Word template.
  • Hit the Control button then the A key on your keyboard to select everything in the template.
  • Go to the Home section, then Styles
  • Select the Style for No Spacing
  • Save the Word Template
  • Merge your letters and run the eAdvisorStatements2007 macro and see how the spacing looks in the PDF documents.

If the above steps do not work, there are two other options to try. Try option A first and if that does not work, try option B. These options are only to be done if the first one above does not work.

A. Go back to Styles and look at the options to see how those are configured. You click the arrow next to the styles, select No Spacing, then Options.

Select settings suggested as shown:

B. Edit the Normal.dotm template. The spacing is determined from the Normal.dotm document which is typically located under C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates. You can open this document and change the line spacing options under the Paragraph section of the Home tab. When on the spacing dropdown, you can choose Line Spacing Options and select Single spacing and click the Set As Default button. This should take care of the spacing issues on the PDFs, after saving the changes to the Normal.dotm document.

You may want to create a backup copy of the normal.dotm template first just to be safe. Here is some documentation on editing the Normal.dotm template:

We provide links to third-party websites in an effort to help you resolve your issue. We are not responsible for the information on third-party websites, and we cannot assist in implementing the solutions on these websites.

We do not recommend using Adobe Pro, just Adobe Reader. The macro will not work correctly with Adobe Pro. Also, we do not recommend any Adobe plugs in Microsoft Word. If you have an Adobe plug in, you will need to remove it from Word on your computer.
