Article summary

When I open Microsoft Word, I don't see the macros for creating the PDF statements to upload to DonorCentral. How can I get those?

Answer:

There are two ways to install the DonorCentral macro, from FIMS and manually if for some reason the tool does not work to add the macro to word.

Notes:

  • Our macros are designed to work on Windows machines and will most likely not work on Macs.
  • Make sure both Word and Outlook are both closed before doing the steps below.

 I. Install from FIMS (On-premises only):

1. Make sure Microsoft Word is closed

2. Go to Tools > System Utilities > DonorCental > Setup Documents for Advisor Fund Statements

3. Click the Load Word Macros button

4. Open Microsoft Word.
5. You will see the DonorCentral macro:

If you receive an error that tells you the macro has been added to the Disabled List, you can clear it from the disabled list by doing the following:
  • Open Microsoft Word
  • Select Add-ins and at the bottom of the window, change the Manage drop down to Disabled Items and click Go.
  • Find FIMS_Mac.dot in the list and click Enable.
  • Close MS Word and re-open

You may also have to go to Trust Center and enable Macros; File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Enable All Macros

If for some reason step #1 does not work for you, you can manually install the macro using the steps below.

II. Manually Install the DonorCentral Macro into Word

  • Make sure Microsoft Word is closed
  • Save the attached file in the Microsoft Word Startup folder located in C:\Users\[username]\appdata\roaming\microsoft\word\startup.
  • Be sure to save the file as a .dot file. If it downloads to your computer with a .doc extension, re-name to .dot; FIMS_eAd.dot.
Note: The AppData folder is hidden. To unhide it, go to the view tab and check the checkbox for Hidden items so that the AppData folder becomes visible:

Here is what the folder looks like with the DonorCentral macro installed:

Note: If your foundation does not use DonorCentral then the eAdvisorFundStatements2007 macro will not work in your Word merge documents even if you manually add the macro to your computer. The eAdvisorFundStatements2007 macro depends on certain fields that are exported out of FIMS during the fund statement export. If you do not use DonorCentral, those fields are not exported and thus the eAdvisorFundStatements2007 macro will not work.

If you click on the Macro within Word and nothing happens, you will need to enable Macros in Word:
File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > Enable All Macros
