Article summary

Maintain Relationship Codes

Relationship codes characterize the relationship between two Profiles. Refer to Creating Relationships between Profiles for more information on using these codes.

Note: You can also use Relationship codes in conjunction with Group Codes to create groups of related Profile records (for example, staff members for an organization, or family members). Refer to Working with Grouped Profiles for more information.

1. In the Profile Management module, select File Maintenance > Profile Code Maintenance > Relationship. The Relationship Code Maintenance window opens.

Relationship Code Maintenance Window

2. Click New to add a new relationship code

3. In the Code field, enter the code (up to 10 characters) that you want to use.

Note: If you change a code that is currently in use, the system will ask if you want to update the code for any Profiles that are currently using it. Click Yes in the message to update the code or Cancel to leave the old code in place.

4. In the Description field, enter a short text description of the code.

5. (Optional) Click the arrow in the Group Code drop-down box and select the type of grouping that you want to add to Profiles that receive this Relationship code.

Note: The code must exist in the Group code table before you can add it here. Refer to Maintaining Group Codes for more information.

6. (Optional) Click the arrow in the Shared Address Type drop-down box and select the type of address that you want Profiles with the selected Relationship to share (for example, the business address for an Employee relationship, or a home address for a Family relationship).

Note: The code must exist in the Address Type code table before you can add it here.

7. (Optional) If you want to provide a default code to use for inverse relationships when you add the Relationship code to a record, click the arrow in the Default Inverse Relationship drop-down box and select the desired code.

8. Click Save.
