Use FIMS Macros to Save Documents

Note: In FIMS 14.73 and later, on-premises users can create individual letters and statements using Microsoft Word automation directly in FIMS. See Create Individual Documents in Word from a Mail Merge.

Many organizations like to keep a copy of each Gift Acknowledgement letter they send. Normally these are printed and filed under the Donor’s name. Some organizations also save these letters electronically as Microsoft Word documents.

A challenge has been that when Gift Acknowledgements are mail-merged, the resulting letters are all created in a single document with only a section break between each letter. This is good for printing, but not for saving. If you save the entire document, it is difficult to find a specific Donor’s letter. It is also tedious to copy and paste each letter into a new document to save them separately.

FIMS provides macros that work with the FIMS Profile and Fund folders to automate this process. One macro allows you to save the Gift Acknowledgement letters to the Donor’s Profile folder and / or to the first Fund folder.

Macros also automate a similar process for saving Fund Statements, allowing you to save your statements to either the main Fund folder or to a Fund Representative’s Profile folder.
