Use Mail Merge with Exported FIMS Data

Microsoft Word's Mail Merge feature can use FIMS data to create form letters, mailing labels, envelopes, directories, mass e-mail and fax distributions, or custom reports.

Tip: For general information about Mail Merge, see Word’s online help system.

Tip: Add the View Field Codes button to the toolbar - When you use mail merge to create letters, it's convenient to toggle between viewing and hiding Field Codes. To make this process easier, you can place a View Field Codes button on your Word toolbar. How do I add the View Field Codes button to Word's toolbar?

1. Right-click anywhere in your Word toolbar and select Customize the Ribbon from the menu.

2. In the Choose commands dropdown choose All Commands.

3.  To add the command to the ribbon you will need to create a new group in the Customize the Ribbon pane on the right.

4.  Click on the Mailings menu item and then click on New Group.  Give the new group a name.  In the screenshot below it is titled View Field Codes (Custom).

5. In the All Commands pane, click View Field Codes and add it to the desired location on your toolbar. In the screenshot below it was added to the Mailings Tab.
