Warning: **W The Apply Dates Are in a Future Year - after running the GL Edit Report
Answer:
The warning on the General Ledger Edit Report, **W The Apply Dates are in a future year, just means that your current system dates are set to a year prior to the year you are posting in.
For example, if your system dates are set to 2015, and you are posting entries in 2016, you would get that warning since 2016 is a "future year" according to your system dates. It is OK to post with that warning message. It doesn't matter if you haven't finalized or closed the prior year.
The system dates control what default year you look at when you go to GL, when you run GL reports, or when you go to the Balance tab in the Fund Module.
When you're working mostly in 2016, you'll want to run the End of Year Closing process and check the box to forward the dates. That will push your system dates to 2016. Despite what the name implies, running the End of Year Closing process does not close the year. In fact it does nothing to the old year (2015), it only updates the beginning balances of 2016 based on any activity that has been posted to 2015.
