Watchlist Check

Since September 11th, 2001, U.S. government investigations have revealed that terrorist organizations have exploited charitable organizations in order to support their operations.

As this can result of economic sanctions programs, such as the U.S.Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets and Control (OFAC) requirements against doing business with certain countries and individuals, charitable organizations should take steps to ensure that they are in compliance with these programs.

Watchlists Check helps you comply with your own internal compliance programs by checking Profiles against specific Watchlists, such as those provided by OFAC, the FBI, INTERPOL, and the European Union, among others. If one of your Profiles appears on a watchlist, refer to the watchlist organization’s policies and procedures in determining how to proceed.

This check includes the following watchlists:

  • OFAC – Office of Foreign Assets and Control
  • BIS – Bureau of Industry and Securities
  • FBI – FBI Most Wanted
  • PEP_FO – Politically Exposed Persons
  • England – Bank of England Sanctions
  • OSFI – Canadian List
  • Europe – European Union List
  • UNSL – United Nations Sanctions List
  • WBNK – World Bank Ineligible Firms
  • Interpol – International Criminal Police
  • TEL – Terrorist Exclusion List

Note: : The code for the Bureau of Industry and Securities changed from BXA to BIS on October 31, 2012.

To run the Watchlist Check

1. In Profile, click the gear icon on the left-hand side.

2. Select Run Watchlist Check.

3. Click OK. The next form displays the number of unique profiles with ID codes which can be checked against the watchlists.

4. Check the ID Code box and click OK to initiate a process that verifies the Profile against several of the international watchlists at one time.

5. If a profile matches to the Watchlist database, then you will be able to create a contact (otherwise known as a tickle) record to follow-up with the organization or individual using the Create Contacts button.  You can also click View Report to display a list of all your profiles and their results in report form.
