WinExec failed (2) - when using Export to Excel button on Trends and Analysis Reports in FIMS
When clicking the Export to Excel button on a Trends and Analysis report in FIMS, you may see the error Win Exec failed (2) followed by Unable to locate the Excel program. Do you want to search for the program?
Answer:
These steps will only work for on-premises customers.
1. When you get the error WinExec failed (2). Click ok here.
2. Click Yes when you see the 2nd message, 'Get Unable to locate the Excel program. Do you want to search for the program?' Click Yes here:
3. After clicking Yes, you will see a file explorer window appear.
4. Navigate to one of the locations below depending if you have a 32 bit or 64 bit installation of Office. Below is an example of Office 15 (Office 2013) you may have for example version 16 (2016) or version 17 (2019) installed:
- C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office15\EXCEL.exe
- C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\Office15\EXCEL.exe
5. Select the Excel.exe file and click open on the bottom right of the window
6. You will see Excel open showing the exported data
7. You will then see the graphic appear in Excel showing the data:
8. After doing those steps once, the errors will not occur again.
Steps To Duplicate
- Launch FIMS.
- Go to Reports. Select Profiles, Gifts, Funds, or Grants>Trends and Analysis
- Make selections
- On the send to tab select, Screen
- Click Run Report
- When report appears, click Export to Excel button
7. Get error WinExec failed (2). Click ok on that error
8. Get Unable to locate the Excel program. Do you want to search for the program?
9. Clicking No closes the report, clicking yes directs you to the files.
