It's easy to get a count of GIFTS by fund, but much harder in FIMS to get a count of DONORS by fund.

Answer:

Set up a data grid or use the User Defined Gift History Export choosing fund fields, etc.
Take into excel and do a pivot on fund on left as row and column as donors have gift as a count.
Do a count function on the right to count all the non 0 columns and that will give you the number of donors.
Depending on foundation size, excel might have a problem with column count.
