Optimized Data Grid Views

FIMS provides two types of Data Grid views: Full and Optimized. Both types of views allow you to tag records, run reports, add Affiliation and Contact records, create labels, or send emails for each tagged record, directly from the data grid. Keep the following in mind when deciding which types of views you want to use.

Optimized Views

Optimized Views are designed to allow you to quickly find and access records. Sorting in these views is based on the primary indexed fields for the type of record you are searching for.

Standard primary indexed fields include ID Code, Fund ID, Gift or Grant Number, and Sort Name, among others. The available fields vary depending on the module and tab you are working with. The default Lookup Lists in FIMS are Optimized views.

Tip: Recommendation: Use Optimized Views for most record-finding operations (lookups). These views are designed with quick searches for data in mind.

To create a data grid using the Optimized view option, choose Opt in the settings of the data grid:

The Type column shows the type for each data grid.

Optimized View Characteristics

  • Appear on the screen faster than Full Views.

  • View contents are limited to a single table augmented by selected functions that bring in fields from other tables (for example, Annual report name from Profiles for a Donor view).

Note: Adding functions to an Optimized view may cause the view’s response time to slow down.

  • Search By and Sorting fields are limited to indexed fields (for example, ID Codes, Sort Names, Record IDs, and other fields, depending on the module).

  • Wild card searches are not available.

  • Each row is the same color.

  • filter a view to display a subset of the records.
