Post Processes in FIMS Modules

I noticed that in many FIMS modules there is an option for posting but you cannot run post processes until you run an edit report first, and you can post from the edit report so why are post processes on the menu as separate processes?

For example, if I try to run a post process from the menu, I see a message saying that I have to run the edit report first. Why is the post process there if I cannot run it directly first?
